The Bagni di Lucca area
The closest family-run grocery store is about 2 km from our homes. It offers fresh bread and traditional “schiacciata” (Tuscan flatbread) every day.
Bagni di Lucca, just 5 km away, is a historic spa town and the main local hub for services, shops and restaurants. Here you will find supermarkets, pharmacies, sport facilities including a large public swimming pool and tennis courts, as well as thermal baths.
The town has a rich cultural history and was once a beloved destination for artists, writers and composers such as Byron, Shelley and Puccini. Its past can still be seen in landmarks such as the English Church, the Ponte delle Catene (Chain Bridge), historic villas and the old Casino, the first gambling house in Europe.
Bagni di Lucca is also a great place to enjoy traditional Tuscan cuisine in its local restaurants, and to explore the surrounding countryside through walking, cycling or horse riding.
Nearby highlights include Borgo a Mozzano and the famous Devil’s Bridge, the Orrido di Botri canyon, the villages of the Garfagnana valley, Barga with its medieval old town, and Coreglia Antelminelli with its Museum of Plaster Figures and Emigration.
For more adventurous guests, the area offers activities such as rafting, canyoning and kayaking.
Further afield, Lucca (25 km), Pisa (50 km) and the Versilia coast (about 40 km) offer beaches, culture and city life. The nearest airports are Pisa (PSA, 50 km) and Florence (FLR, 85 km). The nearest train station is Bagni di Lucca / Fornoli (10 km).
A daily bus service connects our village with Bagni di Lucca, although a car is generally recommended to explore the area comfortably.
